Marathon Game Ends Stingrays World Series
To say that the Stingrays played a great game would be a drastic understatement.  A 4 hour 10-inning marathon duel with a rather large Illinois team ended with a 9-8 loss for the Stingrays.  This battle featured about 5 ties, with the Stingrays coming back each team but falling 1 run short in the tenth.  Ashlee Flesch pitched all ten innings superbly, striking out 8 Illinois batters.  Stingray hitters were:  Amanda Patterson (2), Anne Marie Frankfurt (3 for 3), Katie Hulette (2 including a long double), Colleen O'Brien, Jocelyn Hotter and Rebecca Martin.  Kayleigh Kent reached base all 4 times she batted.

The game was tied 2-2 after 5 innings; 3-3 after 7; 4-4 after 8; 6-6 after 9 and the Stingrays had the tying and winning runs on base when the game ended.

Elimination Round is not a good start
The Stingrays struggled against a solid Georgia team and lost 16-0 in the first elimination round game.  Play resumes tomorrow.  The Stingrays only hit was provided by Ashlee Flesch who had to leave the game early with an injury.

Close Game Ruined by Umpires
A scoreless tie in the 3rd was transitioned by umpires that were way to involved in the game as they caused a 30 minute delay to look at the pitching mound.  By the time the game resumed, Michigan was able to get 7 unearned runs.  The Stingrays came back on Katie Hulette's based loaded triple but fell 7-3.  A superb game was turned in by Haley Clements at catcher and Ashlee Flesch on the mound.  Ashlee struck out 9 Michigan batters.  Stingray hits were by: Rebecca Bates, Amanda Patterson, Hailey Clements, Anne Marie Frankfurt (2), Collen O'Brien, Katie Hulette, Blair Jackwood, Sulleen Kaufmann and Jocelyn Hotter who had a beautiful 2-strike drag bunt.

Bad Day in Blackrock, New Mexico
Stingrays came across a speedy and solid New Mexico team today and were beaten 12-0.  Both of New Mexico's first innings were ended by unusual Stingray double plays.  In the 2nd inning, Colleen O'Brien snagged a hard line drive that popped out of her glove, but allowed her to step on 3rd for the force and then throw to Anne Marie Frankfurt at 1st for the double play.  After a few minutes of controversy, the umpires ruled that it was a double play.  Katie Hullette's valiant attempt to catch a sinking line drive fell short as the winning run scored and the game ended after only 3 innings. The New Mexico pitcher averaged 53 mph and the short stop made several tremendous plays - this is a team that will move deep into this tournament.  Colleen O"Brien was the only girl to get a hit for the Stingrays today.

Stingrays Play Well, but drop Series Opener
The Stingrays represented Virginia well, keeping the score close against the Top Ranked Florida team before losing in a rain-shortened game 8-1.  BRYC started off well taking the lead after 1 inning 1-0.  2 beautiful defensive plays were turned in by an infield outfield combination led by Rebecca Martin, Blaire Jackwood, Amanda Patterson and Jocelyn Hotter.  Florida broke the game open in the 3rd with a 2 out rally topped off by a long 3-run homer to dead center. Amanda Patterson had 2 hits and Jocelyn had a beautiful drag bunt for the Stingrays.
